WEEK 12 - BACK TO BASICS
Christmas is over. New year has come and gone and Easter is months away! 😁 though I anticipate a slight blip around Shrove Tuesday 🙈 So with no more excuses, I'm back on the wagon and I'm strapping myself in so that I can't fall off again.
So today, although not technically day one, I'm going back to basics, back to the essentials that I know about, back to meal planning, back to shopping with purpose and back to focusing on the end goal (for those of you who don't know, I've promised myself a trip to Iceland to see the Aurora Borealis if I make significant progress).
So, I'm 100% in and ready to do this!
For those that remember, I've struggled a lot with having to buy excess food and then throwing it out, so today I tried something new.
Firstly, I decided to do my shopping in Aldi, meaning that the overall cost was lower compared to where I would normally buy groceries. Secondly, I bought the majority of food as either frozen or pre-packed so that it took less time and less waste even though the cost was slightly higher.
If I bought it fresh, and it's suitable for freezing, then I've portioned it out and frozen it like I did with a bag of fresh spinach, which is now packed and frozen into individual portions.
My favourite purchase today was a ready to go stir-try in 3 different flavours. Marinated chicken and pre-cut veg ready to go into the pan and I just swapped the included sauce for some dark soy sauce to save unnecessary calories. Winner! And tasted amazing!
Apart from the food, helpful purchases this week include a thermal multi-section lunch flask, which means I can pack hot and cold food to take to work and then I have no excuse to not avoid the chips! And a halo 2, meaning I can cook with minimum oil, quicker than the oven and have everything cooked at the same time! I'm on a roll! 😜
Last week I did my first purposeful exercise! Woohoo! I joined Leslie Sansone on a 15 minute mile around the living room and I found it surprisingly easy 😮 though I could probably live without the excessive chirpiness 😅
So all in all, a good first week back on plan made even better by a 2lb loss on the scales. 😁
Back on it, back with it and back in it and feeling great!
I'm also finally taking the plunge and quitting smoking properly tomorrow, so if next week I post a very angry, tear-filled rant lol, please just bear with me.
So guys, thanks for stopping by again, hit me with your ideas, advice, support and success stories... we're going to smash this year! 💪
Focused, hard work is the real key to success. Keep your eyes on the goal, and just keep taking the next step towards completing it. If you aren't sure which way to do something, do it both ways and see which works better...John Carmack
